Devil's Trail

We are bikers who look for the best routes for you in the Lipno area, but we are also parents. We know it's important to choose a route that children will enjoy and to estimate as close as possible their physical abilities. Čertova stezka [Devil's Trail] is primarily a family's affair and you can set off either way. If the weather gets bad or if one of your little companions runs out of energy, you can always hop on the Lipenka train and come back to Loučovice in comfort. If you want to use the trail on the way down, start in Loučovice on the left bank of the Vltava. You will go all the way along the Vltava riverbed, which in this section is called Čertovy proudy [Devil's Streams]. Once a year, the Lipno dam opens its floodgates, and paddlers from all over Europe make sure they don't miss this paddling holiday. At standard flow, you can skip stones and enjoy the easy terrain up to the railway station Čertova stěna. From there, follow the little travelled road to the Lipno II dam in Vyšší Brod, where you can have lunch in the Inge Restaurant or Hastrman Pub. The return journey leads on a new cycle path, which may be a little uphill, but you can make the pedalling easier for your children by making regular stops. We recommend stopping at Čertova stěna [Devil's Wall] and the technical monument Spiro Canal. The stop at the Čertova stěna Café will be the perfect ending of the ride.
