Through the forbidden zone and along the extinct village of Kapličky

This route will take you to history. From Loučovice, we set off past the Sv. Prokopa Chapel through the main road to the hills in the direction of the Austrian border. After a steep climb, stop at the top at the extinct village Kapličky, which was forcibly vacated after the WWII. The village housed a parish church, parish school, glassworks, and during the First Republic, there were two inns with accommodation. After the WWII, most inhabitants were forcibly relocated to Austria and a strictly guarded border zone was established in the locality, along which we head down to Vyšší Brod. The distinctive church in Kapličky was shot down on 04 June 1959 and the entire village was completely destroyed and razed to the ground. The historical attractions cannot be complete with the beauties of nature, since the Cascading Waterfalls formed by the Menší Vltavice near the Monastery in Vyšší Brod are one of the most magical parts of the area of Vyšší Brod as well as the whole Lipno area. St. Wolfgang's Waterfalls are must-see. From there, the cycling will be a reward. For lunch, stop at the Inge Restaurant, which is located on the main road just off the cycle path towards Lipno, or at the Hastrman Pub behind the bridge on the other side of the campsite.
